Iranian Foreign Ministry issued s statement on Tuesday over reciprocal measures in response to Canada’s illegal decision aginst the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The statement reads as follows,
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in response to the illegal decision taken by the Government of Canada on June 19, 2024, states that given that the Government of Canada, in violation of the fundamental principles of international law, has designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)—which is recognized as one of the official pillars of Iran’s armed forces—as a terrorist entity, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, based on the principle of reciprocity and pursuant to Article 7 of the 2019 law titled “Reciprocal Action Against the Designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a Terrorist Organization by the United States”, declares that:
“Any country that, in any manner, follows or supports the decision of the United States of America to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization shall be subject to reciprocal action.”
Accordingly, the Ministry announces that the Royal Canadian Navy falls under the scope of the aforementioned law and its provisions and, within the framework of reciprocal measures, is hereby designated and declared a terrorist organization.
